Dad & Me

My Dad - Cary Norman

I never knew my father's side of the family very well.  He grew up in Stockton, CA and moved to Ohio before I was born, but we did manage a few trips out west that have given me some wonderful memories.

Dad's sisters

Dad was raised in a cloud of estrogen.  Out of 14 siblings, 11 were sisters.  These were and are amazing women!  In the 40's Aunt Fern (the oldest) was a truck driver for Valley Stucco & Putty Plant, a company she and her husband helped start up and later owned. Charlotte was in the Army & Lillian joined the Navy.  They all had a hard scrabble life and faced it with grim determination, humor, class, faith, strength & they're all women (and yes, the men in the family, too) that I'm proud to be a part of.
Lillian & Charlotte - The WAVE & the WAC

My desire to to dig into our family started about 15 years ago when Dad loaned me a book he'd borrowed from my Aunt Patte titled "Human Nature: A Psychological Study" written by David Jordan Higgins. Dad told me this David Higgins, was my Great-great-great grandfather...and that he had written it when he was almost 100 years old. David was born Sept. 18, 1817 in Maine and died Feb. 2, 1917 in California.  In between those years, he also lived in Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee and Minnesota. My curiosity was piqued...& I've been digging ever since.
David Jordan Higgins

David Jordan Higgins was the father of Ella (Higgins) Clark.  Ella was Jessie (Clark) Norman's mother. Jessie was married to Levi J. Norman.  Jessie & Levi were my father's grandparents.  I'll keep adding pages to this.  It's definitely still a work in progress!
