Eva Charlotte Norman 1894 - 1941

Eva Charlotte Norman

My grandmother Eva Charlotte (Norman) Goshorn was born November 29, 1894, in Montevideo, Chippewa County, Minnesota. She was the oldest of 6 children.

Her mother, Jessie was also born and raised in the same county.  Jessie's parents, Richard Holbrook Clark & Lucy (Martin) Clark were from Waldo County, Maine.

Eva's father, Levi Joshua Norman came to Minnesota with his parents Richard Norman & Amanda (Noble) Norman from Bloomingdale, NY in the 1880's.  The early family homestead was on Norman's Ridge near Vermontville, NY.

When her parents married in June of 1894 Levi was 23 & Jessie was 16. Eva's family moved from Minnesota to Canyon County, Idaho when she was about 10.  Her two youngest siblings, Art & Ruth were born there.

On August 13, 1908 - just a day before his 37th birthday Levi died of typhoid fever, leaving his wife a 30 year old widow with 6 children to support.  Jessie returned to Minnesota with 3 of her children (Eva, Mabel & Artie) to live with her parents.  Eva's brother Percy lived for a short time with his father's cousin James E. Norman & his family in Rosewood, Minnesota.  Ruth stayed in Idaho and was raised by her uncle, James Hiram Norman in Canyon Co. (For details about Jessie, click on her page link on the right.)

In 1915 Eva was living in Missoula, Montana
sharing a home on Cedar Street with her mother, her brother Percy & Jessie's brother "Roy."  She worked as an operator for Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph.   It was here that she met Milo G. Goshorn, my grandfather.
